Common Thread is the first formal pedagogical model designed by Mi Calle, Nuestra Calle for La Nueva Fábrica, developed over a year as part of the Community Futures Lab. This multidisciplinary program brought together diverse communities in creative workshops facilitated by guest artists. Directed 50% towards public school students from Santa Ana and 50% towards open audiences linked to LNF, Common Thread operated as a living space for intersectional learning, knowledge exchange, and critical reflection on topics such as gender, territory, and possible futures. Its impact is reflected in the strengthening of bonds between neighbors, artists, and students, as well as in the production of collaborative works that nourish the dialogue between art and community.
These workshops were carried out over the course of a year as part of Common Weaving, Mi Calle, Nuestra Calle's first formal pedagogical program at La Nueva Fábrica, dedicated to collective learning, collaborative creation, and critical reflection through art.
Weaving a Mark
Guest artist: Hellen Ascoli
Participants learned braiding techniques using hands and feet, creating objects from the body to leave a symbolic “mark” in thread.
The Skin of Memory

Personal memories were used to embroider photographic images as surfaces of memory, exploring the link between text, image, and fabric.
Re-imagining Plastic

An exploration of the supra-recycling of plastic bags to create new products and potential ventures, repurposing “waste” as a creative resource.
Weaving Memories

Inspired by La Nueva Fábrica’s exhibition, personal illustrations were designed and transformed into tapestries with recycled materials, fostering affective memory.
Mending Stories

Artist books were created using collage techniques, inspired by Margarita Azurdia. Each piece combined images, embroidery, and writing to tell personal stories.
